The Lighthouse Illusion
Lighthouse is an incredible tool for measuring user experience, but it can be a misleading tool for measuring SEO success. A perfect Lighthouse score simply means there are no technical barriers preventing a crawler from parsing your page. It does not mean the crawler actually understands or values what it found.
Many developers obsess over removing unused CSS, deferring JavaScript, and preloading fonts (which are all great practices!). However, they completely ignore the semantic structure that search engines rely on to build their knowledge graph.
Three Things Google Actually Cares About
- Semantic HTML5: Are you using <article>, <aside>, and <main> tags correctly?
- Canonical Links: If you cross-post to Medium or Dev.to, are you ensuring the original URL is credited?
- Internal Link Architecture: How many clicks does it take to reach your most important pages from the root?

The Solution
Stop looking at the Performance tab and start looking at the structure. Build your sites with the assumption that the person reading it is blind, and the machine reading it is stupid. If it makes perfect sense to both of them, you will rank.
